Chie Tahara is an artist exploring the space between sound and calligraphy.

​

Born in Tokyo, she began learning piano at age five and calligraphy at eight — two practices that would later reappear as central elements of her work.

​

After moving to the United States, she studied piano performance at Fort Lewis College, graduating with honors in 1999, and later attended Berklee College of Music, where she focused on songwriting and music business.

​

Following her return to Japan, she worked in a range of roles across the media and entertainment industry, drawn simply by an interest in the field, while creative exploration remained a quiet personal practice.

​

Over time, during a period of turning inward, she returned to calligraphy and undertook formal training, receiving a teaching certification in 2020.

​

In 2024, she completed studies in mental health and psychology, motivated by a wish to better understand human emotions and the role art can play in healing and connection.

​

Today, she continues her practice, moving between sound and calligraphy.

音と書のあいだを行き来しながら、表現を続けているアーティスト

 

東京生まれ。5歳でピアノ、8歳で書道に出会う。幼い頃に始まったこれらの体験は、時を経て、作品の中であらためて結びついていくことになる。

 

高校卒業後、一浪を経て渡米。コロラド州立フォートルイス大学音楽学部でピアノ演奏科を専攻し、1999年にOutstanding Seniorの表彰を受け卒業。その後バークリー音楽大学にて、ソングライティングとミュージックビジネスを学ぶ。

 

帰国後は、幼少期から興味を抱き続けていたメディアやエンターテインメントの現場に関わり、音楽・放送・制作などの分野でさまざまな仕事を経験する。創作はその傍らで、個人的な営みとして静かに続いていった。

 

やがて自分自身と向き合う時間の中で書と再会し、あらためて学びを深め、2020年に師範資格を取得。

 

2024年には心理学とメンタルヘルスを学び、人の感情や、芸術が心に寄り添うあり方への理解を深める。

 

現在も、音と書のあいだを行き来しながら、制作を続けている。
